IN LOVING MEMEORY

Tim "Grandpa" Sanborn

Timothy Sanborn, 56, called "Grandpa" by firefighters, was operating the fire truck when he suffered a massive heart attack. He was part of a crew putting out a house fire in Victor Township shortly after 3 p.m. Friday June 22nd.

The father of three daughters in their 20s died on his way to Sparrow Hospital . "His sense of humor, his dedication in what he did, whether it was his job, the family or the fire department, was just unbelievable," his wife Marie said. "We will all miss him greatly."

Tim was a retired General Motors Corp. die maker who has served Clinton Area Fire and Rescue since May 2002, soon after the 60-member volunteer department was created. He is the only firefighter to die in the line of duty from the department, which protects about 100 square miles in Clinton County .

He was the oldest person in a recertification course when classmates starting calling him "Grandpa". It stuck.
